Photo 635: Bill Albright said this photo of Chuck Harper was taken in the early 1980s. He worked at Florida Power’s Energy Control Center (ECC) in St Petersburg. “When the picture was taken, he was a system dispatcher who used the mainframe computer control system and electronic mapboard of the Florida Power electrical system to operate the system on a minute-by-minute basis. This required him to be in contact with all of the generation unit operators, other power system dispatchers connected to but outside of Florida Power’s territory, and with maintenance and repair crews in the transmission and substation groups to coordinate line outages, perform circuit breaker operations, and monitoring of transformers and other equipment in the transmission substations. At the time the picture was taken, I worked with Chuck at the ECC.”

Jim Foltz said: “In the background is the old tile Mapboard that is no longer there, as it has been replaced with a digital version.”
