This week’s Retro is a mix of photos from our Carolina Power & Light (CP&L), Duke Power and Piedmont Natural Gas collections. If you recognize any of the people or locations, email illumination@duke-energy.com, and include the photo number or attach the image.

Thanks for all your responses in the meantime. Keep scrolling to find out what we learned since the last Retro.

Photo 829: Do you recognize any in this photo? We think they worked in a CP&L Call Center, but we’d love to know where and when.

Photo 855: Help us identify this Duke Power employee. Bonus points if you know what he did.

Photo 868: We think these team members worked in Customer Service at CP&L. Can you confirm or deny?

We asked, you answered …

Photo 866: We received a handful of emails identifying the team members in this photo – many of whom are still part of the Piedmont Natural Gas team, Anna Byers noted in her response.

They are at a charity softball game at Renaissance Park in Charlotte, N.C., benefiting the “brother of a Piedmont employee,” according to Gregory Brown. “Total Combustion was the team’s name, and we finished third.”

From left to right, the individuals are Herbie Williams, German Fernandez (retired), Ronya Nabors (retired), Lucius Rice (retired), Gregory Brown, Suzanne Turner-Sepelak, Gene “Junior” Culp, Rhonda West, John Harrington, Mara Sikora, Ryan King, Nancy Downing, Ken Morgan (former employee) and Adrian Barnette.

Thanks also to Daniel Scruggs, Angela Radford and Herbie Williams for the IDs.

Photo 861: Thanks to everyone who wrote in about this photo, including Todd Thompson, who spotted his late father, Fred Thompson, in the front row. Angela Radford provided the rest of the IDs, apart from John Ozment.

Rodney Bouldin recognized Ozment, officer manager of a Piedmont Natural Gas office in High Point, N.C., which points to its likely location. He and Thompson agree that it’s a picture of the Blue Flame Credit Union board members.

Photo 856: Thanks to Freddie Hancock, we know this 1993 photo was taken at the Green’s Fuel Gas Company office in Siler City, N.C. From left to right, he identified the individuals as Bill Phillips, Cindy Dickson, Randy White, Lee Phillips, Randy Wilkie and Mike Holt.

Photo 840: Tom Tate said, “The truck shown in that photo is a 1938 International D-30 truck with a utility bed on it. These were sold without beds and could be fitted with many different types to fit the needs of the new owner. Being a utility-type bed, this would lend itself perfectly to gas system service.”

Photo 848: Looking at the cars shown in the center, Tate said, “These appear to be 1930 Chevrolets judging from the radiator shells, bumpers, headlight bars/lights, which would date the photo from that time frame.”
