Mystery solved!
Several of you contacted us about photo 531. That’s chemist Frank Abernathy and lab tech Mary Shaver, who worked at "The Island" – Laboratory Services (now Central Analytical Lab) of Duke Power. The photo was probably taken in the early 1990s, said their supervisor, Angie Grooms. Sherry Reid and Joe Fitzgerald also helped us with the names. Joe said he gave Mary the Nerd Pocket Protector. (He still uses one.) Joe said the instrument behind them is a Perkin Elmer Flame AA to detect metals in water samples.
