Robinson Nuclear Plant ushered in a new era of electric generation when it began operating near Darlington, South Carolina, in March 1971. It was not only Duke Energy’s first nuclear power plant but the Southeast’s first commercial nuclear site as well.

Today, Duke Energy’s six nuclear plants meet half of customers’ energy demand in the Carolinas. Nuclear power is also the nation’s largest source of carbon-free electricity. Duke Energy has upgraded Robinson Nuclear Plant equipment, systems and components, so it’s running more efficiently than ever and can help the company reach its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
