More than 70 years ago, Piedmont Natural Gas was formed by a group of businessmen from Spartanburg, S.C. They would buy Duke Power Co.’s gas properties – acquiring 34,000 customers and 360 employees – launching the new business in the Carolinas.
Piedmont would have numerous acquisitions – most notably Nashville Gas Co. in 1985 and would eventually be acquired by Duke Energy in 2016.
Today, Piedmont serves more than 1.1 million residential and business customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
