A new wind project in Kay County, Okla., is generating enough electricity to power about 60,000 average homes. Duke Energy’s 200-Megawatt (MW) Frontier Wind project uses 61 Vesta V126-3.3 MW turbines. The facility began operating in December 2016, and increases Duke Energy Renewables’ U.S. wind capacity to 2,300 MW. It’s the company’s first wind project in Oklahoma, and it was the first time Vestas’ extra-large 126-meter rotors were deployed in the U.S. City Utilities of Springfield, Mo., is buying the power under a 22-year agreement.
