Inside the Renewable Energy Monitoring Center

Duke Energy group keeps tabs on wind and solar sites from Pennsylvania to California 24/7

Workers in an office building in Charlotte, N.C., spend all day and all night watching and managing renewable energy sites across the country. These Duke Energy Renewable Monitoring Center employees ensure that all is well at wind and solar facilities from Pennsylvania to California.

Duke Energy has invested more than $4 billion in renewable energy and expects to invest more than $3 billion in the next five years. Duke has 18 wind farms and 35 solar farms in 12 states, totaling about 2,500 megawatts in electric-generating capacity. The workers monitor and control Duke's sites and sites for customers, including utilities, municipalities, electric cooperatives and corporations.
