- Go flame free: light up jack-o-lanterns with a flame-free source like battery-powered LEDs, flashlights or glow sticks. If candles are a must, keep them away from high-traffic areas to protect trick-or-treaters, and never leave flames unattended.
- Be visible: Have trick-or-treaters carry flashlights to prevent accidents. Reflective tape on costumes, reflective vests and glow sticks can help increase visibility, too. It’s also a good idea to make sure that lengthy costumes won’t be a trip hazard and masks don’t impair vision.
- Plan your route: Travel in familiar areas, let someone know where you’ll be, and never trick-or-treat alone. When you’re collecting candy, walk on sidewalks, use crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing the street.
Have a safe and spooky Halloween!
