Organizations and businesses in Indiana's 92 counties illustrated landmarks and achievements of the Hoosier State on bison last year to recognize the state's bicentennial. The American bison – referred to as “bufello” by settlers – was selected to depict Indiana’s past because it adorns the state seal, recognizing Indiana’s pioneering spirit.

As part of the public art project, one bison found its hooves on the grounds of Hanover College. Sponsored by Duke Energy, the bison, designed in the college’s colors with eyes of Hanover’s panther mascot, showcases Hanover’s scenic location along the banks of the Ohio River in Madison, Ind.
